Welcome
07 - 10 - 01 - New Results posted for Elvington where we raced last weekend. We now can confirm our 6th Position in Class 3 for the end of our 6th Series (2001) having finished in the same position for the 6 hour Endurance Race.
We picked up some carb trouble that caused a bit of outage time which was resolved with a little trackside soldering. This gave us an extra 15 mph in parts - those who noticed the weird acceleration problems when our bike was pulling away this was due to constant engine flooding (we used 10 litres more fuel last race than normal) that was caused by broken float in the carb that was messing with the jetting. Condolenses to Mop Eds who were lined up to win the season but cooked their crank and finished last on the 6 hour.
Hello and good luck to all who are representing the UK series over in Assen next weekend - when we're fast enough we'll be out with you.
Got a load of images and video clips that we will be putting on the site shortly - Smartin has developed a cool results viewer that uses the data logged at the circuit from the transponders and can compare team to team, average laps speeds and a wealth of interesting data form this season. Add your name to our mailing list to find out more information.
25 - 09 - 01- We are going racing on the weekend. If anyone who is reading this wants to come along or enter a team here's where we going... call Dan Nicholls on 0121 605 7324, the organiser and grab yourself a 50cc bike, scooter or sidecar. You've seen what the bikes look like in the gallery so be creative with what you race - the winningist machines are not necessarily the fastest machines - take ours for example. Or come up to watch the mayhem and be part of the closing race of the season.
16 - 09 - 01 - New Results posted. We are now in 6th position in class 3. The red flagging up at Leconfield around the same time we got our puncture actually only cost us 8 minutes as apposed to the 30 we expected so we finished higher up than we expected. The rain caused havoc on miguels lap times causing a wild fluctuations of +-30 seconds a lap - even so on diagnosing the scoring our consistency in lap times gave us an average time of 1:15 mins per lap. Miguel has a new race strategy for Elvington so expect to see the back of aperacing more regularly.
| APERACING - Fastest Laps - Best of 3 x 40 minute sessions | ||||
| Rider | 1 | 2 | 3 *1 | When |
| Smartin | 1:04:68 | 1:02:69 | 1:08:27 | 113 |
| Miguel | 1:17:68 | 1:12:07 | 1:22:49 *2 | 131 |
| Sideshow Bob | 1:01:07 | 0:59:68 | 1:01:73 | 180 |
*1 Torential rain caused the lap times to drop due to excessive
surface water.
*2 Miguel doesn't like surface water.
Cat and Mouse were not racing at Leconfield due to mechanical failure from Elvington but it didn't stop the young Graham Sparey-Taylor competing. He raced as a chair passenger, fell off, broke wrist and still raced the following day with team 54 (R DLY Rideable) Who finished 1 point ahead of Ape Racing on the sunday meeting. Hopefuly he should have his chair running for Elvington. Cat and Mouse are currently postioned in 9th postion in Class 5 (out of 15 teams).
18 - 08 - 01 - Been a week since racing and we're still recovering.... A wicked weekend was had by aperacing up at leconfield having managed the impossible - getting both team and bike to the circuit before the gates shut!!
We had a good weekend despite the rain and mechanical problems - we spent most of saturday remedying smartins minor seizure As a precaution we stripped the head and found damage to the barrel caused by a slipping circlip. the bike was running sweet after that but we ate up practise and scratch race time.
Sunday it rained and although we still managed to grip (We love our stcky tyres) there were many bikes going down on the circuit, enough to make organisers revise part of the track during the race.
We were fairly competitive up until our puncture - how we picked up a puncture in 4th hour is beyond us but it cost us around half an hour of outage. Not a lightening change by any stretch but you'll remember the rain if you were at leconfield and empathise with us. Fortunately we returned to track at a red flag so we lost less time than we thought. Our condolenses to team 173 who exited the race on that fall - also to Andy (MopEds) who rode over the poor fellow.
Surface water was up to a couple of inches deep in parts on the track that meant for a slow run and the gap between fastest and slowest teams shortened for a more fun race - this weather was the worst we had seen racing since rowrah back in 1997.
We got a load of photos and some more video clips of the carnage which we be online soon when I get round to doing it.
22 - 07 - 01 - Added this seasons results to the 'Results' section with additional standings for the whole meeting and season. I also tidied the rest of the previous seasons results - go on have a gander!
17 - 07 - 01 - Even more new gallery images put onto the site from Elvington weekend- click here to see them.
10 - 07 - 01 - Got a load of new images today from the Elvington race weekend. These can be found in the gallery section and were provided thanks to Joe at TAO Research (who is also kind enough to provide our web hosting). Joe was our mystery slow rider who lost his race virginity at Elvington and will be working with Sparey-Taylor to develop some interesting electrical gubbins that should allow us a podium at some point in the hopefully near future.
After the last meeting in June, Cat and Mouse have diagnosed the reason why their engine failed. After removing the head and finding a dirty great hole in the piston, Mr Sparey-Taylor had a look further down and found not just a seized crank but a bent conrod. We reckon that Cat and Mouse swallowed a rock when it was ripping it down the long straight. Seems to figure as the carb opens out onto the back wheel and it wouldn't take too much for a rock to wriggle past the air filter (what air filter) - thus terminal.
Don't expect to see Cat and Mouse up at Leconfield as it'll take a bit longer than a month to source a new engine. Aperacing, however, will be attempting to grab 5th at least as we want some score!!!
28 - 06 - 01 - No crashes for us last weekend. Thanks to everyone who made Elvington's first mayhem a success - we managed to pull out the stops and get some fast laps in that now puts us in 6th position overall. Thanks to whoever it was that rode into the back of me on my second lap. I managed a little superman stunt and stayed on - I looked behind and saw said rider sprawling on the floor.
Cat and Mouse had a more successful meeting this meet as well - putting in some mean riding which gained plus points. Unfortunately for the sidecar team - they had the misfortune of seizing their engine at the far end of the circuit 10 minutes into the final 30 minute race and having to push the car back 1/2 mile to the pits. That's racing for you..
For those that wondered why we were riders missing (miguel) and fans (Esma) on the weekend we were having more fun. Esma had been in hospital over the weekend having her face mauled by surgeons which has left her with a glorious 18" cut on her head (ear to ear) that is held together by 80 metal staples. Suffice to say she should be recovered by the next meet so when you see her ask to see the photos. Some will be on the site shortly along with stacks of digital images thanx to Joe.
Hi also to our recent US and Moped Webring visitors who have come by and stopped at this site. We appreciate the interest -if there is anything you guys would like to see on the site or would like to purchase any of our merchandise drop me a mail with your request.
We now have shipped a new season shirt out to Boston, US so if you spot anyone wearing our merchandise say hi as we'll know who you're are speaking to.
10 - 05 - 01 - Got the photos back thanks to smartin and his digital camera. We have also got a little movie clip of the start of the Sunday Race which you can find here.
08 - 05 - 01 - We are back after a very successful weekends racing up at Rowrah. Congratulations go out to everyone who made the weekend go without hitch and of course our engineers (Brewer) who made the Cardiff side of the operations go swimmingly.
Special mention must go to Sideshow who managed an amazing 1.04.11 on a near 25 year old bike. Even miguel managed to pull his finger out and managed a respectable 1.15.00 compared to previous fastest 1.20.00 (not bad for an amateur!). Smartin fell off a few times destroying his spanking new leathers and he also managed a nice puncture wound on his hand when he fell off the micro scooter!!
Of course we must not forget about sidecar team 20 - Cat and Mouse, AKA Graeme and Becks who not only got their sidecar to run but did 7 laps in the final sidecar race, got a 3rd position which put them to 8th overall in the championship. Nicely done.
01 - 05 - 01 - Been busy and so have the engineers. They have doctored the frame and we should have something pretty nifty when the welding has dried!! I've also checked the site stats and we've had a lot of hits recently. Thanks to all our regular viewers and also our new audience. Please leave a message for us so we know who you all are. New T-shirts will be available from Friday (04-05-01) so mail me if you want one - There are still a few left from last year if you want an ape on your chest.
27 - 04 - 01 - You know how busy it gets this time of year..... Well as Steve and Sideshow have been writhing in the shed (its an engineering thing), miguel and Esma have been slaving over a hot computer. We are proud to present our new logo and will be getting the T-shirts done next week so if anyone has a bit of cash to spare and wants to support a worthy cause then mail miguel with your name and contact details.
22 - 04 - 01 - We are now ready to race. This season we will be concentrating on running our sixth season on 86 Aperacing. This bike has undergone some development over the winter. We should be faster and more responsive due to improved handling and engine modifications. This year we are also running a side car unit that should be up and ready for the first meeting of 2001 at Rowrah.
